Whether you need help to stop smoking or you suffered a minor injury that requires immediate attention, the internists at Compassionate Family Medicine have the experience and training to provide you with the care you need. They also refer to specialists when needed and continue to coordinate your care while you’re in the hospital, a long-term care facility, or you need home care.
How do annual exams prevent chronic disease?
Chronic diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and heart disease develop over many years of lifestyle problems such as an unhealthy diet, lack of exercise, and gaining weight. As the health problem slowly progresses, you have a window of time when you can prevent it from becoming a full-blown chronic disease.
You can only prevent the disease when you know it exists, however, which is a problem because most chronic diseases don’t cause symptoms until they reach an advanced stage. When you get annual preventive exams, your primary care provider screens for problems. In most cases, they detect the signs early enough to reverse the problem and prevent disease.
